ACTRESSES WHO HAVE SUNG THEIR OWN SONGS

The era of Suraiya and Geeta Dutt, actresses who were also renowned playback singers, is long gone. But there have been others — Sulakshana Pandit and Salma Agha, for example — who got equal mileage as singers as well as actors. Even now, the singing bug sometimes bites a Bollywood actress, who then insists on lending her voice to at least one song in her own film. Rekha’s playback attempt in Khubsoorat (1980) had won her accolades. So did Sridevi’s tryst with singing in Chandni (1989).
Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Juhi Chawla have also rendered songs.
And, of course, the latest heroine to join the singing bandwagon is Shruti Haasan, who has earlier sung for regional films and even her Bollywood debut, Luck (2009). She will now be seen lending her voice for a song in D-Day. Here’s a look at some of the Bollywood actresses who’ve sung in their films.
