HOW TO MANAGE CALL FORWARDS

With cell phone batteries that die out on us before the day ends, and spotty coverage in areas, a lot of us use the call-forwarding feature to divert calls to an alternate number in case our primary number is busy or is unreachable. But when we are travelling abroad, this very convenience may rebound on us in the form of huge international roaming charges. Here is a cheat sheet for deactivating the call-forwarding feature.

  1. To disable ‘divert all calls’, type ##21# on your phone and press the call key. In a short while you will get a prompt on your phone saying ‘disabled’.
  2. To disable ‘divert when unreachable’, the code to dial is ##62#. The rest of the procedure is the same.
  3. ## 67# disables call-forwarding when your phone is busy
  4. ## 61# disables call forwarding when your phone goes unanswered, and 5## 002# disables all call forwarding Dial each of these numbers before a trip. These short cut commands work on all handsets, and with most network operators, but do make sure you get a confirmation. When you return, just set up call forwarding the way it was earlier.
