Karan replaced Naseer in Bombay Velvet

Karan Johar has earlier made special appearances in films for friends. But for the first time, we will see him in a full-fledged negative role in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. However, we have learnt, that KJo was not the first choice for the role. Anurag was keen on Naseeruddin Shah playing the villain.
The role was offered to Naseer, but apparently, he took too long to get back. While the two are fond of each other, we heard Naseer wasn’t too pleased with the ordinary role he played in Anurag’s That Girl In Yellow Boots. With Karan being on board, the character is now slightly altered as it was initially written keeping Naseer in mind.
When contacted, Anurag texted back saying, “Yes, it is true. I was upset that we couldn’t get Naseer. And actually, he can’t be replaced. While bouncing off the script to Karan, I felt he would be great for the role if I tweak it a little and make him (the character) younger. After he said yes, we reworked on the script which I just finished.”
Karan will play a rich businessman in the film. We’d also heard that his character will have homosexual undertones. Anurag, however, dismissed the news stating, ‘Not true’. We called and texted Karan, but he was unavailable for comment.
Bombay Velvet, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, is about Bombay, before it became a metropolis. The film spans across three decades and will be shot in Sri Lanka.
