Mohan Agashe to play kingmaker in a Marathi film on reservation

There are few actors, whose films are keenly awaited by the film buffs, and Dr Mohan Agashe falls in this category. This doyen of theatre, films and tellydom will be seen delivering the goods in director Ramdas Phutane’s forthcoming film
Sarpanch Bhagirath.
Ask Dr Agashe, while he has been active in theatre, what kept him away from Marathi films, (except for a Deool) and he says, “I did a couple of films like Agnidivya and Kaun Aahe Re Tikde in the last two-three years, but Kaun Aahe… was not released properly. It didn’t garner the publicity that it deserved. I also did Prem Mhanje Prem Mhanje Prem Asta, but I had a touch and go role. I’m looking forward to Phutane’s film Sarpanch Bhagirath.”
What makes this film so special him? “I said yes because it’s being directed by Ramdas Phutane, who is a poetic genius. He had also produced National Award winning Marathi film Saamna, in which I had a twominute role. But, my character of Maruti Kamble went on to become very popular. I have a great emotional connect with Phutane. And since I’m playing a character of a kingmaker, who plays the politics and manipulates rural dynamics, I’m really excited. Phutane himself makes political statements through his poetry and the film is an extension of these political quirks.”
